چکیده

he NetSolve project, underway a t the Uniersity of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, lets users access computational resources, both hardware and software, distributed across the network. Thanks to a variety of interfaces, users can easily perform scientific computing tasks without having any computing resources installed on their computers. Research issues involved in the NetSolve system include fault tolerance, load balancing, user-interface design, computational servers, virtual libraries, and network-based computing. As the project matures, several promising extensions and applications of NetSolve will emerge. In this article, we describe the project and examine some of the extensions being developed for Netsolve: an interface to the Condor system, an interface to the ScaLapack parallel library, a bridge with the Ninf system, and an integration of NetSolve and Imagevision.

A Study of Deadline Scheduling for Client-Server Systems on the Computational Grid

The Computational Grid is a promising platform for the deployment of various high-performance computing applications. A number of projects have addressed the idea of software as a service on the network. These systems usually implement client-server architectures with many servers running on distributed Grid resources and have commonly been referred to as Network-enabled servers (NES). An impor...

Netsolve: a Network-Enabled Server for Solving Computational Science Problems

This paper presents a new system, called NetSolve, that allows users to access computational resources, such as hardware and software, distributed across the network. The development of NetSolve was motivated by the need for an easy-to-use, efficient mechanism for using computational resources remotely. Ease of use is obtained as a result of different interfaces, some of which require no progra...

Ideal Network Enabled Server Environment

Network Enabled Server environments developed quickly in the mid 1990s. Different approaches adopting diverse technologies have emerged and these environments have continued to evolve. In this paper we have envisioned the characteristics of an ideal NES environment for the perspective of usability and efficiency. It is hoped that this information, synthesized from Surveying many Network Enabled...

Deploying fault tolerance and taks migration with NetSolve

Computational power grids are computing environments with massive resources for processing and storage. While these resources may be pervasive, harnessing them is a major challenge for the average user. NetSolve is a software environment that addresses this concern. A fundamental feature of NetSolve is its integration of fault-tolerance and task migration in a way that is transparent to the end...
